Pet of the month - Meet Marco

Poor Marco visited the clinic early last month straining to urinate. After testing his urine sample, we found that Marco had no bacteria but a lot of blood in his urine and was diagnosed with idiopathic cystitis. Marco was given a few days of anti-inflammatories and put onto a special urinary diet. He has since recovered and is back to being the cool cat on the block.

It is important that if you notice your cat straining to urinate or unable to void its bladder, that you call the vet immediately. Cats that are unable to void their bladder can develop crystals that block their urethra and require emergency surgery.
