Let's talk about Ticks

Over the last month we have seen a severe increase in dogs, cats and wildlife brought into the clinic affected by paralysis ticks. Unfortunately we are in tick season and it's time to start thinking about your animals tick prevention regime.

If you notice any of the following symptoms in your pet please contact a veterinarian immediately.

  • Lethargy
  • Vomiting
  • Hind leg weakness
  • Collapsing
  • Gagging
  • Change in voice
  • Off food

There is now an abundance of tick preventatives available for both dogs and cats, please call our nurses on (07) 3200 6045 if you would like to discuss which product would be best for your animal.

Here is Dr James and nurse Vanessa pulling paralysis ticks off a bandicoot. Although our wildlife has some resistance against ticks, this little guy presented lethargic had some localised paralysis. We're happy to report that the bandicoot made a full recovery and has been released.
