Have you noticed the hot weather?

With the weather warming we have seen an increase in overheated animals.

Signs of heat exhaustion

  • collapsing
  • excessive panting
  • drooling
  • frothing
  • lethargy
  • struggling to breathe
  • injected gums
  • diarrhoea
  • vomittng
  • hindlimb weakness
  • seizuring
  • rectal bleeding

Tips to help your pet through the hot weather

  1. Always ensure they have clean fresh, shaded water available.
  2. Provide a shaded place to escape.
  3. Ensure circulation is available (especially inside eg. fan).
  4. NEVER exercise dogs in the middle of the day, this includes walks.
  5. Provide a shell pool (only under supervision).
  6. Provide cool mats, wet towels and/or icy treats.
  7. Ensure animals are groomed accordinally (shave belly on thick coated animals, ensure not mats, brush out undercoat).
